Wide clear-span buildings in North Florida: what to know

A clear-span industrial building carries its roof on deep rafters from sidewall to sidewall, leaving the whole floor free for lines, cells and large workpieces. That freedom pays off when equipment moves around or products are long. The trade-off is heavier steel and larger foundations at the sidewalls as the span grows. Where part of the floor can take columns, a multi-span frame with a row down an aisle line may be more economical. Wide end walls also need framing to carry big overhead doors.
